Fingers crossed that that one will go ahead as planned. There’s been no word yet that the state of this film will have any effect on Selick’s next Disney project, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. It’s not hard to imagine how Disney’s a bit gun-shy of ever-expanding budgets post- John Carter, anyways. While it may seem a bit extreme for Disney to pull the plug entirely, the director has a history of viewing budgets and deadlines more like guidelines than actual rules, and of course stop-motion animation is a lengthy, expensive process no matter who’s doing it. In making the studio’s first feature, director Henry Selick and the team behind 2009’s Coraline brought the film to life with painstakingly handcrafted stop-motion, utilizing an innovative. The film, as yet untitled, had been in production for over a year and was slated for a October 2013 release date, which there was apparently no way Selick was going to be able to meet. The latest project from Henry Selick, the director behind Coraline, James and the Giant Peach and The Nightmare Before Christmas (no, that wasn’t Tim Burton) has had his latest project canned by Disney.

There are definitely some spectacular 3D parts, but the way it's used in general makes it fade into background If you're drawn to the visual aspects of movies, then this is must-see movie for 2009.It’s a sad day for stop-motion animation. The only area I can knock it is in a tame use of 3D. Plus, it's presented in a serious and dark tone - which adds to it's mystique. Tim Burton actually had absolutely nothing to do with Coraline at all in anyway ever.

If you guessed Henry Selick, you would be correct. Based off the childrens novel written by Neil Gaiman. as she journeys back and forth, she learns more and more about this world. This is the world created in 2009 by director Henry Selick in the 3-D, clay animation film Coraline. In this world, there are alternate versions of her parents, friends and everything. Travis Knight is a longtime animation fan and was an early champion of Selick and Coraline within Laika. One night, she learns that a little door in the house opens into a passageway to a parallel world. The basic setup: A little girl and her parents move into a big, mysterious old home.
The strength is in three areas: visuals (scenery, characters, and little 'details'), style (this is movie is simply a work of art - a very dark and offbeat style) and emotional impact (the film visually evokes a lot of childhood feelings about growing up).
Not only could the visuals be too intense, but the pacing is not that of a children's show. Fans of stop-motion director, producer and writer, Henry Selick (Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas), will be glad to hear this piece of news that was announced recently: Selick is returning to the House of the Mouse.
Second, know that this movie is way too dark (IMHO) for kids under 10. As a child, Selick took up drawing as a hobby. He was mostly raised in Rumson, New Jersey. Selick was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, son of Charles H. First - if you see this movie, try to see the 3D version - not all presentations are in 3D. Henry Selick is a film director, specializing in films with stop-motion animation.
